IF ANY DOUBT CONSULT A QUALIFIED ELECTRICIAN. I AM A BIT OF A DIY CHAP, SO AM CONFIDENT IN WHAT I CAN AND CANT ATTEMPT. My Aquarious 1100 washing machine, 23 years old, had developed a fault, causing the machine to stop quickly after the start button was pressed, causing house fuse RCD to trip. I didn't have a multi meter to diagnose a faulty heating element, so I disconnected the power supply to the heating element, taped these power cables up with electrical tape for safety , put it all back together and the machine then worked. Therefore assumed that heater was at fault. Purchased element from e-spares uk together with a support bracket(awaiting delivery). Heating element is located at the front of the machine, therefore a 15 minute job to take top and front panels off etc to gain access to it. Rear mounted elements should be easier to access just through an inspection panel. The removal of the heating element took way longer than it should have done. The cause was that the rubber compression seal had been compressed for so long that it had got hard and when the tension was released on the brackets squeezing it, it did not return to its pre compressed state and so was simply too big to get through the hole, no matter how much fairy washing ups liquid I put on it or how hard I pulled and pushed. All very frustrating as this should be a 5 minute job, old element out and new one in, bish bash bosh! Solution , first remove the thermostat using pliers , a good yank is needed, this will give you a hole to grab the seal with using long nose pliers. Next remove the compression nut of the old heating element and push the bolt into the machine and then pull the element out as far as possible. Put washing up liquid around the hole where the element goes in/out for lubrication. This now gives you better access to work with. Then simply with a sharp Stanley knife, or similar, trim the top part of the bulged rubber seal along the top, cutting down into the thermostat hole. once this is done grab the rubber seal through the thermostat hole and pull it out. Job done. Once out, clean the hole as best you can and get any bits out, including bits if cut rubber seal! Pop in the new element , refit all the power cables etc put the machine back together and hopefully you have now fixed the machine . STEP 1 Introduction 00:15 STEP 2 Preparation 01:42 STEP 3 Access to water heater gained, removal not quite so easy! 06:23 STEP 4 Removal of the old heating element 10:23 STEP 5 How did I get the stuck heating element out? 11:53 STEP 6 Cutting the rubber seal 14:31 STEP 7 Installing heating support bracket and the new heating element 15:14 STEP 8 Connecting the wires to the new heating element 17:51 STEP 9 Does the machine work? press the go button. 18:30 spares from https://www.espares.co.uk Washing Machine Heater Element - 2100W approx £56 UPDATE 17/04/2022 Fitted the new Washing Machine Heat Element Bracket, from e spares £22, as the old one had to be put back with the new heating element as e spares had none in stock. Good news , the new heating element came out super easy! The old bracket had come away from the heating element as some of the clips were missing.I had to search the net for a video and found this for reference • How to replace a Hotpoint washing machine ... . go to 1:44 and pause it. Once attached, had to then feed the heating element with the new bracket back into the machine. Move the element about once inserted, as you need to make sure that the end of the bracket goes into a recess, to stop the whole unit bouncing up and down, its easy to feel when its seated properly. Job done.
