They are Murīds of Shaykh Nuh Ha Mīm Keller of Jordan. ۞ ʿArif-bi’llah Sayyid Moulay Muhammad al-ʿArabī al-Darqawī al-Hasanī was one of the most important Saints of the 17th century. He founded the Darqawī branch of the Shadhilī Order and is considered the Reviver of the Order. As I mentioned in the video, all spiritual chains go through him. He was born in 1760, in the mountains to the north of Fes, Morocco. Moulay ʿArabī belonged to the Bani Zarwal tribe. The name ‘al-Darqawī’ came from his ancestor, Sidi Darqa, a saint who was know for his Jihad. During his childhood, he met and kept company with many scholars. Moulay ʿArabī was a disciple of Shaykh Ahmad al-Yamāni until his death. After meeting the grandson of Sidi ʿAbd al-Azīz ad-Dabbagh, he sought out Sidi ʿAli al-Jamāl. He arrived to his Zawiyya, where he was given Bay’ah and immediately placed into tests. Moulay ʿArabī stayed with Sidi ʿAli for 7 years, before moving back to his home land in the Rif Mountains. For 7 years, Moulay ʿArabī visited his Master in Fez often until Sidi ʿAlī’s passing. After this, Moulay ʿArabī established the Zawiyya in Bou Brih, where his tomb is located today. He became well-renowned and had 40,000 Murīds all over Morocco. He was very outspoken against the corrupt scholars of Morocco. The Darqawī Order had a bad reputation at the time for being associated with revolutions and rebellions against governments. However, this didn’t represent the true beliefs of the Order. Moulay ʿArabī advocated and stressed non-involvement in the worldly affairs. Moulay ʿArabī passed away in 1823 at the age of 63. He was buried in the Zawiyya of Bou Brih. People used to prove their loyalty to the Darqawī Order by walking barefoot from Fez to the Maqam, which was a 2 day journey. Nowadays, it’s a 3 and a half hour drive from Fez.
