Kenneth Jogo Biryabarema, a contestant in the Rubanda East parliamentary race under the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party, has boldly declared that incumbent MP and Minister of State for Finance general duties, Henry Ariganyira Musasizi, is "politically exhausted" and no longer fit to lead. Musasizi, who is seeking a fourth consecutive term, recently stirred controversy during a campaign rally by declaring himself the inevitable winner, even if he loses the election. Citing his position as the NRM district party chairman, Musasizi claimed he would not accept any other candidate to hold the party flag, arguing that he personally appoints returning officers and helps shape the party’s electoral guidelines. However, while addressing supporters in Hamuhambo Town Council on Monday, Jogo sharply criticized Musasizi’s remarks, describing them as “a clear sign of political fatigue.” He accused the minister of resorting to intimidation, abuse, and desperation instead of showcasing a development agenda. “Musasizi is simply tired. He no longer has anything new to offer the people of Rubanda East. That’s why he’s turned to using offensive language and harassing those who are fed up with his leadership,” Jogo said. Jogo also alleged a plot to arrest over 100 of his key campaign agents as part of what he calls a grand scheme to rig the election in Musasizi’s favor. According to him, mercenaries have been hired to incite violence at polling stations where he enjoys strong support, in an effort to get those results nullified. Despite the mounting tension, Jogo urged voters to remain calm, vigilant, and committed to a peaceful electoral process.
