Lyricist: Unknown Composer: Edmund S. Lorenz The text of this hymn is anonymous and the original source is unknown. Some attribute it to Charles Wesley (1707-1788), Charles R. Hurdith (1839-?), or Howard Kingsbury (1842-1878). However, the actual origin of the text is not known. Some sources say that the earliest known publication of it was in Millennial Praises (1812) or Hymns and Spiritual Songs (1849), but even its first publication is not known. The only thing that is known is the text was arranged and the music was composed both by Edmund S. Lorenz (1854-1942). It first appeared in his Notes of Triumph for the Sunday School (1886). - ~Lyrics~ 1. Come, let us all unite to sing, God is love; Let heav’n and earth their praises bring, God is love; Let ev’ry soul from sin awake, Each in his heart sweet music make, And sing with us for Jesus’ sake, For God is love. [CHORUS] God is love! God is love! Come, let us all unite to sing that God is love. 2. O tell to earth’s remotest bound, God is love; In Christ we have redemption found, God is love; His blood has washed our sins away, His Spirit turned our night to day, And now we can rejoice to say That God is love. [CHORUS] 3. How happy is our portion here, God is love; His promises our spirits cheer, God is love; He is our sun and shield by day, Our help, our hope, our strength and stay, He will be with us all the way, Our God is love.
