Topics Why Non-Duality Is Misused The video begins by confronting a common misunderstanding: approaching non-duality as a way to fix anxiety, fear, trauma, or suffering. This approach is fundamentally flawed because non-duality does not operate at the level of psychological repair or symptom management. The Paradox of Suffering and Ignorance Suffering unfolds in stages: first, suffering without knowing it; then realizing one is suffering; then trying to eliminate suffering. The final stage appears like progress but is actually a refined form of ignorance — conscious resistance replacing unconscious resistance. Spiritual Seeking as Sophisticated Ignorance Practices, techniques, books, and teachers are often used to escape discomfort. This creates a loop where the seeker believes they are “less ignorant,” while still resisting what is. The attempt to remove suffering becomes the very mechanism that sustains it. What Trauma Actually Is Trauma is not an event or memory — it is unprocessed excitation. Excitation is energy experienced as sensation. When sensations are resisted or ignored, they solidify into recurring patterns the nervous system replays for survival. Sensation vs. Story All feelings — fear, grief, joy, excitement — are the same fundamental energy. What changes is the thought layered onto sensation. Emotion is sensation plus narrative. The sensation itself is neutral; suffering arises from the belief that it must be removed. Why Avoidance Creates Threat Originally, the threat appeared external (the “lion”). Over time, the perceived threat becomes internal sensation. Avoiding sensation turns it into a monster. What is not looked at continues to appear dangerous. The Role of Therapy Therapy works by dismantling stories and beliefs around sensation, allowing energy to be felt and processed. Expecting non-duality to perform this function is category confusion — they operate at entirely different levels. Why You Can’t ‘Do’ Non-Dual Insight Most spiritual effort occurs in the realm of doing — action to produce a result. Non-dual insight does not arise from effort, technique, or lower-level energetic activity. It emerges through understanding, which is the removal of false knowledge. Understanding vs. States States achieved through practice are temporary and physiological. Truth is not a state. Seeking better states is still seeking relief. Understanding reveals that nothing was wrong with sensation in the first place. The End of Suffering Suffering does not end by eliminating sensation. It ends when resistance collapses. What remains is simple sensation — no threat, no meaning, no problem. The realization is not that suffering was fixed, but that it never truly existed as believed.
