Today is all about candle making with children. Let's Make Bees Wax Candles! Welcome to Feather Nest Cottage. This show is just for young children and today we are making candles. I want to encourage parents and teachers to offer candle making, even with the very small child. As long as you are safe children can experience the smell and textures of finished candles. Be prepared to go slowly with this project and to provide coloring for waiting times. The message we want to share with the young child is "yes you can" and "slow and steady wins the race." Being around the experience of candle making is also just as nourishing for young children so even if they barley help they will remember the annual candle making winter days. It's Mrs. Heather here! Thanks for joining me. Twice a month new lessons appear. These videos are for children to watch with their parents and to make one project as a family. Time with family is so important and learning together hands on is healing for all! If you like these videos don't forget to like and subscribe. Thanks for supporting the mission of learning lessons from long ago! Some of them are even suggestions from other you tubers that I purchased and found helpful. Having the right tool is everything! To Make Candles: You will need Beeswax, a double boiler (or two pots), wicks, metal containers to make larger candles, a scissor, a knife, a vessel to dip candles in (size desired) a peeler and a few hours Chop or use a peeler to trim down your bees wax or buy it already in small pieces. Melt the wax. This takes longer to melt than better as it is in a separate pot or double boiler so it is heating slowly. I like the smell of bees wax on it's on but you can add a few drops of essentials oils should you wish to infuse that do so as it melts. Smell it. If it is not strong enough add more. Once melted dip the candle quickly and let dry. Repeat until it is the size desired. If you want longer candles than the ones I made in the video choose a vessel for the desired length. The longer it is the longer it will take to make one. The candles in this video I made that are tapered are for birthday candles. The bottom of the candle gets fatter sometimes. It is important to be mindful of this and shake it a bit in the vessel before you lay it down to dry. The only advice I will give is to allow it all to dry slowly. Don't rush the process or the wax will crack. I find making candles to be meditative, a living meditation of sorts. Let me know in the comments if you give it a go or if you use candle making similarly.
