This total yin yoga practice was created as a way to connect with “the fertile void” - the space in-between - by cultivating stillness in our bodies and also attempting to create more stillness in our minds. It is very difficult to establish total stillness of the mind, but what we can do is try to focus on the space between the thoughts and emotions we experience. There will be lots of silence within each of the postures, so that you have the opportunity and the space to turn more inward. *** (THIS IS THE LAST ZOOM RECORDING that will be published publicly to YouTube) Winter is a time of waiting, not acting. It is associated with coldness, death, stillness, darkness, and also rest and healing. This is a time associated with what I like to refer to as “the fertile void”. The challenge here is to surrender to the unknown. It is a perfect time for reexamination of ourselves and of aspects of our lives. It’s no coincidence that the years ‘end’ was placed in the winter, instead of in one of the other seasons. Humanity could have referred to the end of the natural cycle in any season, because it’s just a big circle, but we chose winter, because of how much it can be related with death in the birth/death cycle. It is wise to see patterns and synchronicities between ourselves and nature. Throughout the practice, be gentle with yourself; this type of practice doesn’t always come easily for everyone. Take your time getting settled in the postures. It may take the first minute or so of each hold to settle.
