Doing regular maintenance is a great way to make your equipment last longer, but sometimes it hurts!!! When I was doing the 1000 hour maintenance on my Massey Ferguson GC2300 sub-compact tractor I wanted to drain the main transmission oil and change it. Good idea right? Well for sure it is, but when I was removing the drain plug it was hard to unscrew it. When I got it out I didn't check it too close and then went about cleaning the primary oil filter and changing the hydraulic oil filter. Then came time to put the oil drain plug back in. Oh Oh!!! The plug wouldn't thread into the drain hole. I checked the drain plug and the threads had pieces of aluminum in them. This is a sickening thing to look at and if you ever experience it well, I feel your pain!!! My worst fears were realized when I looked at the drain hole and saw that there were no threads left in it at all. It almost looked like it was bored out with a drill. I got that bad feeling in the pit of my stomach when something like this happens. My tractor was rendered useless because of an M14 drain plug. What was I going to do!!! I thought of many solutions, all of which were not permanent or very professional. Then a neighbor from up the lake , Glen, suggested I use a Time-sert. I had never heard of them before but investigated them on the Net and found out they are a very good method or repairing stripped out threads. I think they are miles ahead of heli-coils and decided, although the Time-sert solution was very expensive, to go with this method to do the repair. Here is an Amazon link to the kit I bought: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B001... I ordered the Time-sert system and when it arrived I asked a couple of my neighbors, Glen and Anthony, to drop by the shop and give me a hand with installing it. It is not a complicated thing to install, but I have to say, having 3 guys working on it made it go pretty smooth. I was hoping to capture the whole process on video, but my mind and heart were on 'making' the repair and not so much on 'filming' it I guess, so I apologize for that. I did get some video though. The time-sert worked perfectly and I'm happy to say I finished the hydraulic oil change and got the drain plug installed and all is good once again!!! Thanks for watching this rather long video. I sure hope you can gain some benefit from what I experienced here. Although I am not sponsored in anyway by Time-sert, I sure do recommend their system. It is the absolute best in my opinion. Please take some time to 'Like' and 'Share' this video. I would appreciate that a lot. I hope you all have a great week and thanks again for watching.
