I didn't disconnect the battery, but its always a very good idea to do this just in case you short something. I've had these actuators around for a while. I'm not sure if Echo and Yaris 4 door hatchbacks were in USA during these years, but maybe that's why there weren't videos on this specific job. So, this is probably something Canadian owners might face more than Americans. I had to go to Australian parts suppliers (where I knew they had this generation of Yaris) online to verify the part numbers and then looked them up on Amazon and ebay. I can't recall which source I bought them from off hand, but it was about 10 x cheaper than buying them from the dealer and the parts are identical. Hardest part seems to be getting the door crank off. The yellow and white retainers can be released by gently prying them off the linkages so that you can disconnect them from the lock. Unscrew the door lock button so that the linkage slides through the plastic guide as you pull the lock out. I found that it was much easier to install the lock with this linkage removed and then re-insert it with a twist once I had the lock back inside the door (prior to connecting the other linkages, which occurs prior to installing all the bolts. If the electrical connector is hard to separate from its socket, just use a small screw driver, or a hook tool to pry the top of the clip towards the wires while you pull them apart. That should release the clip, but sometimes I have struggled to separate this type of connector. With the linkages disconnected, you shouldn't have any problems getting the lock and actuator out. If you try and do this without removing the window rail bolts it's difficult. The actuator is easily removed by undoing the small philips heads holding it to the lock. Just take a picture or make a mental not of how the old one links to the lock before you remove it. Connect the door lock button linkage before the linkages to the white and red retainers. insert all the torx and 10 mm bolts, connect the door handle and run cable and linkage in the nylon bracket. I lubed any linkage contact points with lithium grease before putting door panel back on and opened and closed the locks several times just to make sure. When I tested the lock in this video, it seemed to be dragging a little compare to the others. At first try it didn't move and I thought I had a dud. After trigerring it a few times and lubing the linkages, it worked perfectly. Possibly that's one of the reasons these actuators eventually fail. Although I'm sure it is mainly the motor brushes wearing out after 18 years of constant use.
