Rani ki Vav (Patan) – Rani ki Vav (Queen’s Stepwell) is a famous historical stepwell located in Patan, Gujarat, India. It is one of the finest examples of ancient Indian architecture and was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2014. 🏛 History • Built in the 11th century during the Solanki (Chaulukya) dynasty. • Constructed by Queen Udayamati in memory of her husband, King Bhima I. • It was later flooded by the Saraswati River and buried under silt, which helped preserve its intricate carvings. 🧱 Architecture • Designed as an inverted temple, symbolizing the sacred importance of water. • About 64 meters long, 20 meters wide, and 27 meters deep. • Has seven levels of stairs leading down to the well. • Contains more than 500 main sculptures and over 1,000 smaller carvings. 🕉 Sculptures & Artwork • Beautiful carvings of Hindu gods and goddesses, especially Lord Vishnu in different forms (Dashavatara). • Features apsaras (celestial maidens), saints, and mythological figures. • Detailed and delicate stone work shows the advanced craftsmanship of that period. 🌊 Importance • It was not just a water storage system but also a place for social gatherings and religious activities. • Represents the Maru-Gurjara architectural style of Gujarat. • Today, it is a major tourist attraction and a symbol of India’s rich heritage. Rani ki Vav is also featured on the ₹100 Indian currency note, highlighting its national importance. #travelvlog #patan #ranikivav #gujarat #india
