For 69 years, Charles Howard Wilding Jr. never left the two-bedroom brick house in Sherman Oaks where he was born. After his mother died in 2017, he became a recluse — invisible to the world. That invisibility made him the perfect target. A con artist named Caroline Herrling used Google Maps to scan wealthy neighborhoods for neglected properties, hunting for owners who might be dead or incapacitated. When an accomplice broke into Wilding's home and found his body, they didn't call police — they looted his estate, forged his identity, and stole nearly $4 million. Then they attempted to dissolve his body in acid on an apartment balcony. When that failed, they dismembered him and dumped the remains in San Francisco Bay. A second victim, Robert Tascon, had his $1.5 million Encino home sold without his knowledge. He died by suicide before any arrests were made. Herrling was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison in one of the most disturbing fraud cases in Los Angeles history. #TrueCrime #IdentityTheft #RealEstateFraud #LosAngeles #ConArtist
