In this episode of Learn with Me, I attempt to write my first country music track! I dive into the characteristics of the genre, like storytelling, a focus on acoustic and electric guitars, melodies, and vocal harmonies. Inspired by artists such as Johnny Cash, Garth Brooks, The Wandering Hearts, and The Shires , I'm using Ableton Live to craft a track. Watch as I set the tempo, record acoustic and electric guitars, build a drum track with Addictive Drums 2, lay down the bass, and experiment with strings (including my favorite part, the cello ) and piano. I even add vocals to tell a story about my life in a van and getting old! I ended up with what I'd call a "Country Rock" sound. Let me know what you think in the comments! ☕️ SUPPORT MY CHANNEL: https://coff.ee/soundsfromthe5th Key Gear & VSTs Used: DAW: Ableton Live Acoustic Guitar Mic: Neumann TLM 102 Electric Guitar Amp Sim: Neural DSP Morgan amps Drums: Addictive Drums 2 Bass: Guitar Rig 7 Vocals: Waves Vocal Rider , Waves Baby Tubes Reverb/Delay: Baby Audio Spaced Out , Hybrid Reverb Mastering: Ozone 11 00:59 - Characteristics of Country Music & Inspiration Artists 01:21 - Starting with the Acoustic Guitar (Setting Tempo & Mic) 02:11 - Developing the Chord Progression 03:49 - Moving to Electric Guitar & Setting up the Signal Chain 04:47 - Recording the Electric Guitar Lead 07:55 - Focusing on Drums (Using Addictive Drums two) 09:25 - Drum Kit Sound Selection 10:59 - Creating an Energetic Outro Drum Part 11:15 - Recording the Bass Track 14:59 - Adding Overdriven Guitar Layers 16:57 - Adjusting the Acoustic Guitar Tone (Guitar Rig seven) 18:12 - Panning and Mixing Adjustments 19:21 - Returning to the Original Lead Melody with Overdrive 21:19 - Adding Strings (Cello VST) 24:21 - Adding Reverb and Automating Strings 25:29 - Adding Piano Chords 26:38 - Adding a Reverse Effect for a Transition 27:39 - Adding Percussion (Shaker) 28:50 - Adding More Electric Guitar Layers 33:10 - Applying Low Cuts (EQ) to Clean up the Mix 34:14 - Refining the Drum Variation and Fills 35:48 - Writing Vocals and Lyrics (Storytelling) 38:17 - Recording Lead and Backing Vocals 42:51 - Vocal Processing (Waves Vocal Rider & Baby Tubes) 44:15 - Finalising Drum Reverb 44:39 - Quick Mastering (Ozone 11) 49:11 - Final Thoughts and Genre Classification (Country Rock)
