I felt like a Roman walking on Gadara's ancient paved Roman road, still perfectly preserved after 2,000 years. I felt immensely privileged to explore the ruins of a once-great empire through the remains of their architecture and the feat of engineering throughout the ruins the Romans left in Jordan. It was a sad exploration to see a once magnificent city reduced in some areas to rubble; thankfully, the Roman theaters were exceptionally well-preserved thousands of years after the demise of the Roman Empire. Followed by turmoil, invasions, wars, and natural disasters, my video documented what is left in Gadara Decapolis today. Gadara became one of the ten major Roman cities or Decapolis of the Roman Empire in the levant (Palestine, Jordan, Israel, Lebanon, and Syria), now situated on a hilltop in Northern Jordan with great views of the Sea of Galilee and the Jordan valley. Under its control Roman General Pompey in 63 BC, reconstructed Gadara and named it one of the Decapolis of the Roman-ruled cities in the levant. Gadara was a splendid Roman city with a network of sophisticated water tunnels in the center of the ancient city. In this video, you could still find paved Roman roads, theaters, Ruins, baths, Roman colonnaded streets, aqueducts, a temple, a basilica, and a hippodrome still well-preserved from the Roman times. As I filmed this video, I could understand why the Roman elites considered Gadara a Roman resort city, the views of the surrounding hills, valleys, and the Sea of Galilee are just stunning! The Roman ruins of Gadara are as well-preserved as those of Jerash in Jordan; it's the second-best well-preserved Roman ruins in Jordan after Jerash. Come with me on this epic exploration of Gadara, the ancient Roman city in Jordan.
