HOW TO FIND A FAMILY MEMBER DETAINED BY ICE If your loved one has been detained by ICE, you can locate them using the ICE Online Detainee Locator System (ODLS). Search by full name, country of birth, and date of birth, or by their nine-digit Alien Number (A-number) found on DHS or immigration papers. Try different spellings since the system needs exact matches and ignores accents. For example, search “Jose Luis Mora Ramirez” or “Jose Mora Ramirez” instead of “José Luis Mora Ramírez.” The ICE Locator isn’t always current. Detainees are supposed to appear within eight hours of custody, but updates can take much longer, especially during transfers. Sometimes it may show “no record found” even if they’re detained. You can also contact the person’s consulate. ICE must notify consulates when their citizens are detained, and consular staff can help locate someone who doesn’t appear in ICE’s database. They may require proof of family relationship or the detainee’s consent, so it’s best for close relatives to reach out directly. If you can’t find your loved one or need help navigating this process, contact an immigration attorney or legal advocate for assistance. 📞 Need immigration help?
