Completed in 2023, this home artfully merges traditional Kerala architecture with modern design sensibilities, celebrating the essence of ancestral heritage while catering to contemporary needs. At the heart of Zikr is its central courtyard, a defining feature that floods the home with natural light, enhances ventilation, and creates a seamless indoor-outdoor connection. The layout, inspired by Kerala’s traditional tharavadu homes, positions living and dining areas around the courtyard, complemented by breezy verandahs and a retractable shading system adorned with terracotta jaalis. These jaalis cast captivating shadow patterns that shift with the daylight, adding dynamic charm. The interiors blend reclaimed furniture, rattan cane weaving, mud pottery, and modern art to create a unique ambience. Flooring materials like Kota green and Jaisalmer yellow pay homage to traditional aesthetics, while sleek furnishings introduce a polished, contemporary vibe. Zikr’s exteriors feature a classic sloped roof with clay tiles, cobblestone pavement, and lush landscaping of coconut trees, alocasia, and heliconia, perfectly harmonizing the built structure with its surroundings.
