(18 Oct 2014) Tens of thousand of supporters of the Pakistan People's Party gathered in Karachi on Saturday to attend a rally held by the son of the assassinated former prime minister Benazir Bhutto. Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, who is currently the chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party, is widely thought to be the next leader of the party and could take over from his father former president Asif Zardari. Bilawal, who was joined at the rally by his father, vowed to win back the support of the Pakistani people. PPP suffered heavily in the largest province of Punjab in May 2013 general elections, mainly to Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf-PTI which has emerged as a major force in Pakistan politics. Amid heightened security it was the largest political rally the city had seen in many years. His mother Benazir Bhutto, was assassinated in December 2007, when she was serving as the country's prime minister.
