There is a strange "no man’s land" between losing a parent and the day of the funeral. In today’s walk and talk, I’m sharing a very personal and difficult experience. My sister and I went to the Chapel of Rest to see our Mum, who passed away on the 30th of December. Even though I’ve been through this before with my Dad, this visit felt very different and deeply final. I wanted to be honest about the reality of saying goodbye. There is a profound moment of realisation when you see a loved one for the last time—a memory that stays with you long after you leave. It is a harrowing part of the process, but a necessary step in showing final respect and beginning the long journey of saying goodbye. As I navigate these first few weeks of retirement, I’m finding that life doesn't pause for our transitions. Between writing the eulogy and preparing for Tuesday, it has been a stressful and emotional time. I’m sharing this for anyone else who has walked this path; it’s about finding the strength to move on, just as Mum would have wanted us to. If this resonates with you, or if you’ve faced a similar "hard goodbye," please feel free to share your thoughts in the comments.
