Surah Al-Ḥashr, the fifty-ninth chapter of the Holy Quran, is a Madani Surah that reflects on the expulsion of the hostile Jewish tribe of Banū Naḍīr from Madinah and provides deep lessons about faith, unity, reliance upon Allah, and the consequences of hypocrisy. The Surah emphasizes that true success comes from obedience to Allah and sincere commitment to the Muslim community. Reason of Revelation (Asbāb an-Nuzūl): Surah Al-Ḥashr was revealed after the events involving Banū Naḍīr, who violated their treaty with the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and conspired against the Muslim community. Allah supported the believers and caused their opponents to withdraw without major battle. The Surah was revealed to remind Muslims that victory is granted by Allah alone, to expose the hypocrisy of those who secretly supported the enemies, and to establish guidance regarding distribution of war gains for the welfare of society. Virtues & Importance: • Teaches reliance upon Allah in times of conflict. • Exposes hypocrisy and warns against betrayal. • Encourages unity, sincerity, and social responsibility. • Includes the beautiful concluding verses describing Allah’s Names. • Inspires remembrance (dhikr) through the Asmā’ al-Ḥusnā. • Emphasizes that worldly strength is nothing without divine support. • Promotes generosity and fair distribution of resources. Selected Arabic Verse: هُوَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِى لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ۖ عَـٰلِمُ ٱلْغَيْبِ وَٱلشَّهَـٰدَةِ English Translation: “He is Allah—there is no deity except Him, Knower of the unseen and the seen.” This recitation is shared purely for educational and spiritual purposes.
