Results of a Phase II study of gilteritinib versus midostaurin in newly diagnosed FLT3-mutated AML

Selina Luger, MD, FRCPC, University of Pennsylvania Abramson Cancer Center, Philadelphia, PA, presents the results of a Phase II randomized study (NCT03836209) in which newly diagnosed patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) with FLT3 mutations were treated with standard chemotherapy (daunorubicin and cytarabine) and either gilteritinib or midostaurin. Prof. Luger highlights that gilteritinib resulted in higher remission rates and transplant rates than midostaurin but did not significantly improve measurable residual disease (MRD) negativity as determined by FLT3 mutation analysis.
