"Bad ideas have one thing in common, they happen because we care”, argues novelist Nele Pollatschek. TEDx is all about ideas worth spreading. But Nele Pollatschek makes the strong statement that it is the “bad ideas” we hide that prevent progress. With her talk she challenges everyone of us to identify the absurd behaviours we cling onto, and to reflect on the fact that we could be wrong, especially when we care deeply about being right. Nele Pollatschek is a writer, lecturer, and researcher. In her debut novel “Das Unglück anderer Leute” (Galiani, 2016), she examined the absurdity of family and freedom. Nele studied English literature and Philosophy at the Universities of Heidelberg and Cambridge and holds a master’s degree (MSt) in literature from the University of Oxford. Also at Oxford, Nele is currently writing her doctoral thesis on the problem of evil in Victorian literature. She has taught classes on literature, creative writing, and argument structure. In 2017 Nele received the Friedrich-Hölderlin-Prize for young authors. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
