Alright today sees us start a brand new district, and this is in Essex. This district has SIXTY parishes, and all of them in their own way shape or form are going to unequivocally show just why walking around a village in rural England is the best thing there is, bar none, to do when you've got a nice day and some friendly folk to do it with. This is Uttlesford in North West Essex, perhaps the prettiest district in the East of England, although some places in Norfolk might well be disagreeing with that statement. Personally, I think i's a marvellous part of the country, and hopefully after seeing these first few villages you'll agree. We begin with this one, which is pretty big compared to a lot within Uttlesford. One of London's six major International Airports is shared between this one and the neighbouring Takeley to the South, and it is here, along an otherwise uninspiring country road that you can watch the planes take off and land perfectly legally on a patch of grass alongside the airfeild. The village itself is a masterpiece. It has several claims to fame. Firstly, the production of jam which was once called "the most expensive jam in the world"; secondly, one of Team GB's Gold postboxes can be found here in tribute to local showjumper Ben Maher, and how about the station here that has one of the very few remaining hand operated level crossings anywhere in England?
