Arcady (Jolson-DeSylva) played by Hanaford’s [sic] Broadway Orchestra (Apex 8148-B) 78 rpm record Researching this recording was almost more effort than it was worth. Johnson & Shirley, American Dance Bands on Record and Film (1915 – 1942) Rustbooks Publishing, 2010, initially states that it is in fact a recording by the Joseph Samuels Orchestra on Banner 1293. But under "Joseph Samuels" the authors state that although it was also released on Apex 8148, “…This session only is aurally by an entirely different band.” and that it was recorded in New York, c. November 16, 1923 (the same year that the song was published). They also spell “Hannaford” with two letter “N”s, when it frequently shows up with only one on many labels. I can’t find my copy of the 78 rpm record, (although I know it’s floating around somewhere), so I’ve provided the sheet music which is currently in the Public Domain. The sheet music comes from the following website: digitalcommons.library.umaine.edu You can find out a little bit more information about Mr. Hannaford at the following website: https://www.kpl.gov/local-history/kal... Apparently, he played trombone and is associated with Kalamazoo, MI. So I know almost nothing about this recording ... If you have better information, pls don’t hesitate to leave it in the comments section. Surface noise managed by using VinylStudio software.
