When first got my hands on Garbage's debut album, I spun the hell out of it on bus rides to and from school, and Vow was one of my favourite tracks off the album (there were so many other great songs too). The ambient sounds, the punchy arrangement, and Manson's sultry singing was a huge departure from anything else floating around the airwaves at the time. I just added another 0.047uf capacitor to the tone control circuit to smoothen out the otherwise aggressive midrange of this bass when I roll the tone off, so I can now get it to sound closer to the produced bass tones on the Garbage records. A friend also loaned me a Solid State Logic SSL 2+ to record some stuff with, so I decided to experiment with stereo recording the bass on this track. Equipment used: Bass: 1982 Aria Pro II CSB-380 (tuned DADG) 0.1uf (two 0.047uf in series) tone capacitor, 30% rolled off Elixir Nanoweb nickel plated strings (0.045 to 0.105) Gravity 3mm Striker XL plectrum Audio: Solid State Logic SSL 2+ audio interface Palmer stereo passive DI Box to split the bass signal MXR Studio Compressor, EWS BMC2, Tech21 Sansamp BDDI (Right) Zoom B3's Aguilar amp sim with Fender 4x12 cab sim (Left) Edited in Reaper (low shelf and 500Hz boost added) Video: iPhone 7 Edited in Davinci Resolve 16
