Mascagni: Cavalleria Rusticana: Intermezzo by the Victor Concert Orchestra 1926 The very nicely recorded 1926 Orthophonic Victor record. This isn’t a record I would normally even notice, but when I played it it was surprising how great it sounded. In the Victor recording notes (shown in the DAHR link below) they show very many takes and even with varied instrumentation. This is take 23. It makes me wonder what they were experimenting with to take so many takes. This one is really good and I am surprised it is a black label and not red seal record. But, I think red seals were held for major artists and orchestra and this recording, while full of great musicians, is a studio orchestra.
