The Mentawai language is a beautiful but endangered indigenous language spoken by the Mentawai people on the Mentawai Islands, off the coast of Sumatra, Indonesia. While Marjolein can understand a lot of it, she rarely speaks it. Along the way, we'll share more about the Mentawai language, its rich cultural significance, and the efforts being made to preserve it. The Mentawai language is at risk of disappearing, with younger generations increasingly speaking Indonesian.
