The Gibb River Road Part 1 | Emma Gorge, Pentacost River and Home Valley Stn | Episode 40

We've left El Questro and have hit the gravel! This episode is Part 1 of our Gibb River Road series. The Gibb (as it's affectionately known) connects Kununurra in the East with Derby in the west and is mainly unsealed and notoriously rough. The Gibb is the main route crossing the iconic Kimberley region, other than the main highway. We head over the primarily dry crossing after a beautiful and quiet night on the Pentecost River. The Pentecost marks the beginning of our adventure and one of the most iconic drives in Australia. Home Valley Station is not far down the road, and Liz enjoyed getting some experience behind the wheel on this first short stint. The station provides food, accommodation, a swimming pool and a fantastic under-cover playground area. We took full advantage and spent most of the day here kicking back and relaxing while the kids had a ball on the playground. Later in the afternoon, we set off to find a free camp a little further down the road and found a nice open area just to the west of the Durack River. We are treated to a spectacular Kimberley sunset after knocking up a quick feed on the bbq.
