Spinoza a 17th century philosopher, and Jesus had something in common. Both lived in a hostile environment. At Jesus time there was a Roman occupation, the people were suppressed, lived in fear, slavery, poverty, hunger, and diseases, were common problems. Spinoza, lived under a Monarch rule, Religious Group had a great influence and presence in government. Spinoza wrote a book, “The Political Theological Treatise” that explained that the Bible was the works of man and not of God. The purpose of this book was to encourage people to apply their rational thinking to discern that they do not have to live in fear and be subject to the whims of the church. The purpose of religious organizations is to impose fear of God and to be dependent upon them for their salvation and protection from demons and hell. The parables Jesus communicated to the masses were laced with deep intuitive psychological insights of human nature, and the truth for salvation. Both men understood the love of God rather than to fear God. To love God is to understand the power of the mind in applying reason and intuition for its understanding the laws of Nature or of God. The religious organization at the time, Judaism, practiced basic principles of the laws of obedience, tradition, reading the Torah, believing they are special, and were people chosen by God. Jesus was a man who communicated with God mind to mind, Spinoza wrote and understood. The mind of God expresses the infinite understanding in which we are a part of. Unfortunately, man lives by his instincts and desires that determine his nature from things that stimulate him. Jesus permeated God’s presence that few saw and understood. He was killed because the leaders of the Jewish community fear of losing their power over the people. Jesus communicated the love of God and the kingdom within at a time of where man was lost in fear, suppression, diseases, and poverty, he spoke of peace and love that was different from the ordinary religious doctrine of fear and obedience. The Jews didn’t kill Jesus; it was the men in power who happened to be Jewish. Spinoza’s books were banned because the political environment felt threatened by his ideas. People at that time lived in poverty, were uneducated, were suppressed and controlled by threats and fear. Spinoza is looked upon as the father of modern psychology and was called “a God intoxicated philosopher.” Yes, if you read, study, and understand his Ethics, your life will be different. Happiness, peace, love, and freedom would be your new reality. The book is about God, the Mind, man’s emotions, and of human freedom. It’s not a book on theory, but a step-by-step method to exercise the mind through rational thoughts, reason, and intuition. Unfortunately, man lives by his lower nature, his instincts for survival, plays a dominate part for his existence. Man’s ego is the shadow of his essential nature. His ego is a copy of the environment he grew up in, and his personality expresses his egoistic nature.
