Join Ella as she shows you a super fun way to practice using a knife and fork to cut up some play dough food! You'll need your hands and your imagination to make play dough food creations! This is a firm favourite in many occupational therapy (OT) sessions at MoveAbout! Many children we work with have tricky times with fine motor and movement skills that can interfere with activities such as using cutlery. In this activity, your child will activate their touch and body awareness sensory systems (tactile and proprioceptive systems) through squishing and rolling play dough to make different foods. This also helps to build hand strength through activating the small muscles of the hands. By watching Ella in this video, they can also see visual cues of where they need to place their fingers on the knife and fork (As the adult, you may also need to assist with this!). Have fun with the stabbing and sawing motions of cutting up your pretend food! Materials you'll need: Play dough or theraputty A knife A fork A chopping board A plate Your hands! #paediatricoccupationaltherapy #cutleryskillsforkids #howtouseaknifeandfork ___________________________________________ The MoveAbout channel is made by a group of paediatric occupational therapists who are passionate about having fun and promoting children’s physical and emotional development through sensory-based, play-based, and relationship-based activities.
