Michael Irvin just scored a major win in his $100M defamation case against Marriott and the hotel employee who accused him of misconduct. Marriott's Response pull no punches in describing Irvin's motion as "baseless" and "an affront to the integrity of the judicial system." Marriott accuses Irvin of attempting to "home cook" it by filing his first motion for expedited discovery in a Texas state court. Marriott similarly accuses Irvin of trying to obtain a "home field advantage" by filing his lawsuit in Texas rather than Arizona. Marriott then complains that Irvin deployed a "team of private investigators to surveil and otherwise harass the reporting employee and potential witnesses" at the Renaissance Hotel in Phoenix where the alleged "misconduct" occurred. Next, Marriott claims that Irvin wants a copy of the surveillance footage for the "illegitimate purpose of trying this case in the media." Marriott insists that its decision to withhold the surveillance footage is not for some "sinister" reason despite Irvin's suggestions to the contrary. The following day, however, the Court rejected Marriott's arguments and entered an Order granting Irvin's Motion for Expedited Discovery of the surveillance footage, investigation reports, and any witness statements that may exist.
