Branden Terrell of Coaching 4 Life introduces us to Brandon Browner who won 2 Super Bowls with the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots. Browner is currently incarcerated in San Quentin state prison.The child abuse he experienced as a kid was traumatic. He grew up in an abusive household mostly without his father who has been incarcerated for 17 years. He played football on all levels and had coaches who were father figures who mentored him and took him under their wing and showed him love. In this conversation he discusses the culture of sports in high school, college, and the NFL. He shares how difficult it was playing a kids game and being a dad at the same time while struggling with substance abuse along the way. He risked and lost millions of dollars using substances while in the NFL. Today he is addressing the pain of the past through doing the internal work necessary to heal. He hid his childhood pain and traumas on the football field and it all came to a head once his career ended. Today success to him doesn't have anything to do with the millions of dollars he made in the NFL. On the contrary, his success is based on mastering himself, owning his failures, and turning his trauma to triumph.
