Punjab demands Rs 1.44 lakh crore in unpaid water dues from Rajasthan The Punjab government has claimed ₹1.44 lakh crore in unpaid water usage dues from Rajasthan for water supplied through the Gang Canal via the Ferozepur Feeder. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann stated that Rajasthan has not paid water charges since 1960, despite receiving around 18,000 cusecs of water under a 1920 tripartite agreement involving the British Government, Bahawalpur State, and Bikaner State. Mann said that since the agreement has now been cancelled, Rajasthan is liable to clear the pending dues. He also criticized previous governments for failing to safeguard Punjab’s interests and confirmed that the state has formally asked Rajasthan to settle the matter, warning that the issue will be pursued further. This development highlights the ongoing inter-state water disputes in India, which remain a sensitive political and economic issue. #Punjab #Rajasthan #WaterDispute #BhagwantMann #IndiaPolitics #WaterCrisis #InterStateDispute #GangCanal #Irrigation #BreakingNews Official YouTube Channel of The Tribune, North India’s oldest and most trusted newspaper, published from Chandigarh, India.
