Nearby, the world's highest artificial lake supplies snow for skiing when natural cover is low. Gurson Bugyal Trek Gurson Bugyal (also Gorson), a vast alpine meadow at 3,056-3,519m, lies just 3-6 km from Auli via an easy-moderate trek through oak, deodar, spruce forests, and apple orchards—perfect for all levels, with pony options available. En route, pass the sacred Padiyar Devta Temple and forest checkpost (get permits there); the summit rewards with 270° vistas of lush grasslands and wildlife like snow leopards.
