What if your deepest grief could become the doorway to your greatest awakening? In this powerful talk, Sandra Champlain, host of We Don’t Die Radio and author of We Don’t Die, shares her extraordinary journey from skepticism and fear of death to a profound knowing that consciousness survives physical death. Beginning as a successful chef and entrepreneur, Sandra’s life was transformed through personal loss, intense grief, and astonishing experiences with mediumship, electronic voice phenomena (EVP), and afterlife research. With compassion, humor, and grounded skepticism, she explores how grief alters the brain, why suffering can ignite spiritual growth, and how connection with loved ones in spirit can heal even the darkest moments. Featuring real-life examples, scientific curiosity, and deeply moving personal stories—including communication with her late father—this presentation offers hope, evidence, and inspiration for anyone navigating loss, questioning mortality, or seeking meaning beyond death. ✨ Timestamps 00:00 From Chef to Afterlife Explorer 01:06 Grief as the Catalyst for Awakening 01:25 The Lodgepole Pine Metaphor 04:10 Fear of Death & Early Skepticism 05:32 Studying Mediumship & NDEs 06:24 First Mediumship Breakthrough 08:05 Discovering Electronic Voice Phenomena (EVP) 09:18 First Spirit Communication Recorded 10:51 Sharing EVP With the Grieving 11:50 Losing Her Father & Family Fracture 14:10 Rock Bottom & Studying Grief 14:56 How Grief Changes the Brain 15:47 Creating How to Survive Grief 16:38 A Moral Calling Emerges 17:02 Writing We Don’t Die 18:36 Launching We Don’t Die Radio 19:21 Life as Soul Education 20:43 Grief to Glory Role Models 23:17 Evidence of the Afterlife 30:06 Images From the Spirit World 31:42 Seeing Her Father Again 33:35 Living as a Divine Soul 35:06 Sitting in the Power 38:22 The Ripple Effect of Kindness 41:08 Life Review & Final Message ABOUT IANDS (The International Association for Near-Death Studies) IANDS is a membership nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization with a mission to advance global understanding of NDEs and related experiences through research, education, and support. What is an NDE? A near-death experience (NDE) is typically a profound, life changing, intensely emotional experience that usually occurs during a clinical crisis and has common characteristics and aftereffects. It is not a dream, hallucination, or mental illness (Greyson, 1983). There are no predictive variables to identify who will have an NDE. They happen to people of all ages, religions, socio-economic groups, cultures, educational backgrounds, and belief systems. They occur under a variety of circumstances such as accidents, near-drownings, illnesses, combat, surgical procedures, and childbirth. Following an NDE, experiencers (NDErs) often display some common aftereffects. Research has established a set of common NDE characteristics and long-term aftereffects. Theories used to explain near-death experiences in purely physical terms have been proven inadequate by NDE researchers and others.
