London Underground train fleet/rolling stock. The London Underground is a matro/rapid transit rail network in London serving the city and surrounding area/London boroughs throughout all 9 travel zones. The Underground has been operated by Transport for London since 2003. Note that past train fleet is based on rolling stock operated on the Underground netwrok since becoming part of TfL in 2003, any rolling stock operated before this date is not included. The Underground is divided into 2 main line types of Sub-Surface using larger trains built using cut and cover mehtods and Tube lines using smaller trains on deep level tube lines. There are currently 4 Sub Surface lines which are the Circle line from Hammersmith to Edgware Road via Edgware Road, Kings Cross St Pancras, Tower Hill and Victoria. District line operating services from Upminster to Richmond/Ealing Broadway, Tower Hill/Edgware Road to Wimbledon and High Street Kensington to Kensington Olympia. Hammermsith & City line from Hammermsith to Barking. Metropolitan line from Aldgate/Baker Street to Uxbridge/Watford/Chesham/Amersham. There are currently 7 Tube lines which are the Bakerloo line from Harrow & Wealdstone/Queens Park to Elephant & Castle. Central line from Ealing Braodway to Hainault, West Ruislip to Epping and Hainault to Woodford. Jubilee line from Stanmore/Wembley Park to North Greenwich/Stratford. Northern line from High Barnet/Mill Hill East to Battersea Power Station via Charing Cross and Morden via Bank as well as Edgware to Kennington via Tottenham Court Road and Morden via London Bridge. Piccadilly line from Cockfosters/Arnos Grove to Heathrow Terminal 5/Terminal 4 and Rayners Lane/Uxbridge. Victoria line from Walthamstow Central to Brixton. Waterloo & City line between just 2 stations of Waterloo to Bank. This video shows the current train fleet (December 2024) along with the future rolling stock and past rolling stock for this network since being operated by Transport for London. The S Stock (S7 and S8) used on the sub surface lines is planned to remain with London Underground as it is currently around 10 years old. These trains are fully walkthrough featuring fully longitudianl seating on S7 and mixed longitudional/transverse seating on S8. S7+1 trains were operated being S7 trains with 8 carriages temporarily on the Metropolitan line. The only rolling stock currently confirmed to be replaced is the 1973 stock on the Piccadilly line which will be repalced from 2025 by the new 2024 stock built as part of the Inspiro trains by Siemens. The new tube for London trains will be fully walkthorugh 9 carriages in length. The older tube trains of the 1972 stock (oldest operating trains) on the Bakerloo line, 1992 stock on the Central line and 1992 stock on the Waterloo & City line are planned to be repalced by the New Tube for London but are not yet funded or confirmed. The Bakerloo 72 stock being over 50 years old is prioritised for replacement by new trains. The newer tube trains of the 1995 stock on the Northern line, 1996 stock on the Jubilee line and 2009 stock on the Victoria line are not yet planned to be replaced. Previously the TFL operated Underground Sub Surface network has used A stock, C stock and D stock on the sub surface lines with the A60 and A62 stock being used on the Metropolitan line and East London Line (before converting to London Overground in 2007). The C69 and C77 stock operated services on the Circle and Hammersmith & City lines as well as Wimbledon to Edgware Road District line services. The D78 stock operated all other District line services. These trains were replaced by the S stock. Previously on the TFL operated Underground Tube network has used 1967 stock on the Victoria line which was fully repalced by 2011 by the current newest Underground tube rolling stock of the 2009 stock. Many other forms of rolling stock were used on the Underground network before 2003 when TFL took over operation of the London Underground. The train fleet information is correct as possible as of December 2024 and future train fleet dates are based for the planned introduction for passenger services.
