Jerusalem is the place where many of God's servants have met their deaths. Paul found himself being warned that chains and suffering await him there. His friends sought to stop him, believing that the prophecies were meant to dissuade him from going. But Paul felt that the road to Rome went through Jerusalem and he intended to be there for the feast. While there, Paul was falsely accused and nearly beaten to death, if not for the Roman garrison that rescued him. That leads us to today's passage and an important question. Does Paul have any authority, whether personally or in his experience to speak to us about living and ministering in a fallen world? I believe he does, and that this passage shows us how.
