Before surgery, I was leaning to one side, using a walker, and living with 24/7 constant nerve pain from sciatica + back pain. I’m 29 years old and a mom to a toddler — and deciding to move forward with microdiscectomy wasn’t easy. It actually started as what I thought was normal “mom back pain” about six months postpartum — from lifting, nursing, and carrying my toddler. Over time, it progressed into nerve compression at L4-L5. My MRI showed an 8mm disc herniation at L4-L5 with moderate stenosis, directly compressing the L5 nerve. That’s what was causing the constant burning pain down my leg.
