In this episode, we introduce ourselves to our very underwhelming units, and realize why the game says the initial challenge is "Hard". 0:00 - Intro 1:58 - Control is handed over 2:20 - Quick Tech Selection 2:38 - Diplomacy is examined 3:32 - Unit Overview (Spoiler : It's bad. For now at least. More detail below.*) 6:56 - First Turn Ends 10:00 - Massilia offers us a NAP for money, I make a deal, probably the most beautiful deal in the history of deals, they accept because they know I am the greatest leader of all time 10:21 - More Tech Selection 11:00 - We siege the Aeudi, our longtime (see the prequel and relevant expanded universe material) rivals. It looks like the odds are stacked against us 12:04 - They sally forth. LET BATTLE COMMENCE! 12:20 - Deployment starts. 15:25 - My forces are pretty much arranged where I want them, time to let the enemy advance and see what I can do. They don't seem to be pooling their forces which may actually give me a chance. 18:52 - Get your trumpet out because it's going down for real! 20:30 - You know what, this is actually looking a lot better than I thought it would... 21:35 - Maybe, just maybe...? 23:22 - Clenches bottom 24:03 - When I check how many men the Chosen Swordsmen unit has left, and knowing there's still a unit of Oathsworn out there, I know my poultry is roasted. 27:14 - I'll take a point on an away game, thanks Alan. 28:57 - More Tech Selection 31:48 - We siege Bibcrate again, this time with a unit composition I'm far happier with. And that's where we leave it! Tune in next time to see if I can actually win a battle in this campaign. I'm feeling positive! *A brief description of how I will attempt to use the units : Celtic Slingers - Essentially archers. These do low damage but have a lot of ammo so can help for most of the fight if kept out of the way. They're fine I guess. Celtic Youths - 'Skirmishers' but really, really don't like melee. Yes they have more melee damage & armour than the slingers but even less morale & melee defence! Too tough to use properly. Levy Spearmen - Terrible at killing anything but cav. Can sort of do a holding action against other units, but really, a poor unit. No wonder it's so cheap. Oathsworn - Obviously an excellent unit, only available through general's bodyguards until later. (I really like how Rome 2 handled this btw - you get to see some of the elite units early on, but they are restricted to one per army.) We are going to need a few of these to face Rome and Carthage. Celtic Warriors - Will definitely be filling my army with more of these than any other troop. They are cheap, effective anti - infantry infantry with good morale for the early game.
