Wood selection and initial thoughts on making a tool cabinet for a corridor position - further videos on construction to follow. I have been wanting to make a tool cabinet for some time, especially for some of my better tools that I keep at home, as they are in little heaps around the house at the moment! Having some beautiful plain oak, brown oak, spalted beech and elm has been the catalyst for me to get building. It will seem very odd changing for a while from doing green woodworking with comparatively soft wood and no sawdust, to working with seasoned 'hard' material, but it will be a very good opportunity to refresh my basic carpentry skills. I have a rough plan of my design partly sketched out, and partly in my head, and I will doubtless develop this as I go along. I will make changes as my fancy takes me and also to accommodate the limitations of the material that I have to hand. I often find that it is the limitations in life that actually spur good design and artistic flair - that odd shaped bit of wood in the corner with the crack suddenly shouts out "use me" as an idea emerges - well lets see how this project develops!
