While catching up on "Monday Mystery" games recently unveiled at Galloping Ghost Arcade, I came across this unique game. If you're unfamiliar, the game gives you unlimited lives. Your only goal is to reach a certain score threshold by the end of the stage. If you don't, it's GAME OVER. Obviously, getting hit is still bad because you'll power down if you had a weapon power up (or if you were at the base shot level you'll die, wasting precious time to re-spawn). The game features many different scoring techniques to reveal either instant score bonuses or medals. Once you reach the 10K bonus level for large medals, they will not reset unless you take a hit (you can still let some pass off-screen without penalty). I decided to learn the "Medium" course because it seemed possible without the use of autofire. While I did manage to clear the Medium course at the Galloping Ghost without auto, for this run I used 15Hz auto and was able to score much higher. You'll notice I used the player 2 side; like the first Super Spacefortress Macross game, p2's ship (aka "Necks") has slightly faster movement speed. There is obviously much room for me to improve my score, but I'm happy for now. My most obviously blunder was using a bomb at the last boss when he was invincible and therefore wasting it. I could have increased my bonus by 40k if used it when he was vulnerable and finished him with 10 seconds left on the stage timer. I somehow lost track of where he was in the cycles...doh! I also missed a few score techs; for example, the fast angled jet in stage 2 at 3:39 escaped me. Gameplay was recorded with wolfmame .262, dip switch setting were left at defaults and 15Hz autofire was used. Thank you for watching! #retrogaming #longplay #longplay
