LIVE: Senate votes on Tulsi Gabbard for National Intelligence role

The US Senate is expected to vote on the nomination of Rep. Tulsi Gabbard to be the Director of National Intelligence. Two of President Trump’s most controversial appointments, Robert F Kennedy Jr and Tulsi Gabbard, are on track to take up their posts in his cabinet after winning Republican support to clear their Senate confirmation committees. Kennedy overcame reservations about his suitability to be health secretary over his vaccine scepticism, and Gabbard earned support to become director of national intelligence despite alarming some Republican senators by refusing to join them in condemning Edward Snowden as a traitor for leaking secret documents. Both are former Democrats who switched to become Trump supporters and they will now face votes of the full Senate chamber. Given its 53 to 47 Republican majority there do not appear to be enough votes to block either confirmation after the wavering committee members came round on Tuesday.
