This video was filmed back in December, on a cold, quiet allotment day — building compost bins, planting onions, garlic and shallots, and doing the sort of winter jobs that never make headlines… but make everything else possible. But this isn’t really a winter allotment video. It’s the starting point of a bigger idea. In July, I’m setting myself a challenge that many people say can’t be done: to eat only the food grown on this allotment for one full month. No shops. No convenience food. Just what the garden provides. This isn’t about perfection, record yields, or proving anything on paper. It’s about testing what’s realistic for an ordinary allotment, using simple, traditional growing methods — and seeing how close to self-sufficiency we can really get. Over the coming months, I’ll be sharing the planning, the mistakes, the successes, and the honest reality of trying to grow enough food for a family — without stress, chemicals, or complicated systems. If you’re curious about: • self-sufficiency • growing more with less effort • traditional allotment skills • or whether this kind of challenge is actually possible then this series is for you. 👉 If you’d like to follow the challenge closely, I’ve set up a free email newsletter where I’ll share updates, thoughts, and behind-the-scenes planning as we head towards July. https://martin-the-garden-guy.kit.com... Thanks for watching — and let’s see what happens.
