Goodwill & Good Vibes — Tokyo Record Dig with Bryce & Michael!

My dear friend, confidant, and longtime Tokyo Record Style supporter Bryce Suzuki was in Tokyo from Arizona, visiting on a goodwill delegation with the US–Japan Council. We took the chance to reconnect and spend a couple of days doing what we love — digging for records around Tokyo! This video covers Day 1 of our two-day vinyl adventure. I met up with Bryce in Ōkubo, joined by my “Dog Log” co-host Michael Warren, and we hit the road west. Along the way, Bryce surprised us with some incredible souvenirs from the States — for Michael, a copy of Phish’s “Siket Disc”, and for me, an alternate version of The Velvet Underground’s “Loaded”, plus some sweets for the kids (Thanks, Bryce!). Our first stop was Ella Records in Hatagaya, where we soaked in the cozy vibes and scored some great finds. Michael grabbed Taj Mahal’s The Natch’l Blues, I picked up Leonard Cohen’s Greatest Hits and Jerry Garcia & Merl Saunders Live at the Keystone, and Bryce found a few gems of his own. After Ella, Michael peeled off to take care of his pups, while Bryce and I continued on to Kichijōji, stopping at Coconuts Record and HMV, where we added even more treasures — Del the Funky Homosapien, Gang Starr, Beach Fossils, The Cult, Vampire Weekend, and more. We wrapped up the evening with a stroll through Harmonica Yokocho and a bite at Talking Gorilla, one of Kichijōji’s best spots for casual eats and conversation. What a day — and that’s just Part 1!
