Welcome to Day 4 of your Aikido basic training! Today Sensei Laura Hackle will teach you the exercises you need to develop a strong core, so that you can fall down safely and get up again and again. Every Aikido technique requires two people in two roles: the uke, who brings energy in the form of an attack and who receives a pin or a throw, and the nage, who controls the center and direct's uke's energy to bring the attack to a swift and safe conclusion. Your skills as uke determine the level of training you are able to engage in. Without good ukemi, you can not attack with realistic speed and intensity (without risking serious injury.) Without good ukemi, you cannot develop the core stability and sensitivity to weight shifts that you need as nage to respond to attacks of a realistic speed and intensity.
