As we know, an athlete's world revolves around their game and an injury shouldn't stop them from staying in the game. From the Department of Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Surgery at Universal Hospital, Prof. Dr. Massimo Piracci (Consultant Orthopedic Surgery) elaborates on the excellent procedures and advanced techniques done at UH for related injuries especially for athletes. From the vast range of services we offer, ACL reconstruction, Speed Bridge, Ozone Therapy, and PRP (Plated-Rich Plasma) were among the techniques that Dr. Massimo discussed in the video. ACL Reconstruction (All-inside Technique) A damaged or torn Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) can mean an end in an athlete's career. With the latest technique, the "All-inside ACL Reconstruction", the patient will be on the way to a faster recovery. With only one tendon altered and without having to drill the Cortical Bone, expect less pain after the surgery. Physiotherapy (Kinetic Physiotherapy) can immediately start on the next day. After four weeks, the patient can walk, drive, and function normally. Five to six months of full recovery and the patient can be back on the field. Achilles Speed Bridge It is a mini-invasive technique for the Achilles Tendon which allows us to perform a Percutaneous Surgery without completely opening the skin. This is an innovative device that uses a four-anchor compression with strong fiber wire suture in an hourglass pattern over the distal end of the tendon instead of the standard single-point compression for more stability and faster recovery. Three months on and the patient is fully recovered. PRP (Plated-Rich Plasma) This technique involves drawing blood from the patient and separating the platelets from the red blood cells and white blood cells. Platelets contain proteins called "growth factors" which are significant in the body's healing process. Thus, this platelet concentrated blood have five to ten times more potential to heal any muscle injuries or lesions. Ozone therapy Ozone therapy involving Oxygen (vasogenic) and Ozone (inflammatory) therapy has more potential than oral medicine. Since there is generally less supply of blood in our tendons, oral medicines would take time to be transported to and absorbed by the damaged tendons. With ozone therapy, the drug can be administered directly to the tendon which would enable a speedy recovery. Less pain, Faster Recovery.
