The Department of Genetics presents the Gary D. Stormo Symposium on Computational Biology! This event celebrates Dr. Gary D. Stormo and his achievements as a pioneer in computational biology, as well as his legacy as an inspiring mentor and educator. His colleagues, collaborators, and former trainees will speak on Dr. Stormo’s accomplishments in computational biology, current developments in the field, and on the history of the Computational Biology Ph.D. program at Washington University in St. Louis. About Scot Wolfe: Dr. Wolfe is a Professor in the Department of Molecular, Cell and Cancer Biology at the University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School. He received his Ph.D. from Harvard University, after which he completed a postdoctoral fellowship at MIT. Dr. Wolfe’s lab focuses on developing precision gene editing technologies, including more precise CRISPR/Cas9 technologies for gene therapy. His lab has developed key methods to engineer zinc-finger proteins with designed DNA-binding specificities, and he collaborated with Gary Stormo to model the specificities of these proteins.
