Watch in HD!! Went out to the desert to watch a few trains along Union Pacific's Yuma Sub, aka "The Sunset Route." I first hit up the small deserted town of Niland, CA... then gradually worked my way NW up Highway 111 along the Salton Sea, going as far as Bombay Beach. First time visiting this area for me, it was pretty cool! The Salton Sea is well below Sea Level and can reach 110 degrees easily in the Summer. I went in late October and the temps topped out at 88 degrees. The San Andreas fault line runs along here too. If you ever want a change from city-life Railfanning, I suggest trying this area out! Some of the freights really haul ass out here too!! The train traffic was pretty solid for a Saturday! I got 13 in about 7 hours. I noticed the mornings are real heavy with westbound traffic and evenings more heavy with eastbound...very similar to the BNSF railway. Train info: 1) UP 8376 East at Niland 2) UP 2530 West at Niland 3) UP 5300 West at Niland 4) UP 7439 West at Niland 5) UP 6946 East at Niland 6) UP 7419 West at English Rd. 7) UP 7746 West (Norfolk Southern units) at Howell Rd. 8) UP 2615 East at Howell Rd. 9) UP 8084 West at Hot Mineral Spa Rd. 10) UP 7491 West at Hot Mineral Spa Rd. 11) UP 2714 East at Hot Mineral Spa Rd. 12) UP 8170 East at Range Rd. 13) UP 7454 East near Bombay Beach 14) UP 7454 East again, now English Rd. Thanks for Watching! AmtrakCal462
