The official lyric video for 'Dty Skeealyn', track 7 on our debut album, 'Stand in the Sea'. 🌊 A trip to Silverdale never fails to give us aaaaallll those nostalgic feelings 🎠 If you’ve seen us play it live, you may have heard a brief explanation as to what this song is about. A couple of years ago, Culture Vannin asked us to arrange our own version of the Manx song Hop tu Naa. We did it gladly, and after posting online, I received a message from a lady on Instagram, Janet. She told me that hearing the song had suddenly brought back memories of her late grandfather, Tommy Corris, born in Foxdale on the Isle of Man, but relocated to Lancaster when his father died in a mining accident. She said that he used to sing Hop tu Naa to them when they were little, as well as having turnips on October 31st (and they never knew why!) He’d talk about fairies or ‘little people’ and other Manx folklore, but only towards the end of his life, so they all thought that he was talking nonsense! On hearing our version of Hop tu Naa, all of these memories came flooding back to Janet, inspiring her to research more about her Manx heritage. I thought that this was really special and was so touched that she had told me her story so ‘Dty Skeaalyn’ - meaning Your Stories, is all about Janet and her grandfather, Tommy.
