St Matthews Church Ashford

This beautiful church holds a strong place in my heart. I was married there, my father has been in the choir there since he was 7 and still sings there every week, some 60+ years on. My grandparents were wardens there, many of my family have been laid to rest there, and my kids were Christened there. Standing proud in Ashford High Street in Church Road, this is St Matthews Church. It is a Victorian Gothic Revival church designed by William Butterfield, with its foundation stone laid in 1857 and consecrated in 1858. Its tower was however finished in 1865. It is one of the key historic focal points in town and is beautiful both inside and out.
