adapted from Stuart Colman's 1995 artist notes: There can't have been too many records that have sported a rhythm guitar solo, let alone a manic busking percussionist - grabbing twelve unforgettable bars. "Woo-Hoo" by Virginia's Rock-a-Teens proved the exception. Formed in high school as Boo Walke & the Rockets, this rockabilly quintet saw a favorable reaction when the local DORAN label (owned by this instrumental's composer) first put "Woo-Hoo" out in the late summer of 1959. Then when ROULETTE in New York picked up the master, the single became a national Top 20 hit by the end of November. The company must have been thinking reasonably long term, as the following year they shipped a hastily assembled album and single but, with no further action to speak of, the Rock-a-Teens' moment of glory had been and gone. The group broke up shortly after and, except for Vic Mizelle, none of the members continued in the music business.
