AquaFusion Bioplastics: Moonshot Pitch R1

For the past month a team and I (Shreya Sharma, Gabriela Lombana Arias, Fadhil Hasna Syed Ibrahim) have been hard at work to find a solution to combat the ever-growing Microplastics pandemic. 🌊 After some consideration we developed a solution around Algae-based Bioplastics. The reasoning for this was largely in part due to the capabilities of algae as it's cost effective, cheap and easy to grow in any environment. 💲 However, we quickly ran into issues in trying to actually make an impact to eliminate our over-reliance on the petroleum-based plastics that were causing the microplastic pandemic. Bioplastics were simply way too expensive to ever be considered an alternative. 🔬 After some analysis, the team found that 50% of the costs associated with the production of bioplastics were largely in the polymerization stage. So after some research we landed on a method known as Bacterial Instructed Synthesis to potentially eliminate MORE than 50% of the costs in the production process.
